Marge's Surnames

On 8 May 2007 Michelle KUDRON wrote the following in my online guestbook:
I have been looking for more info on my great-grandfather Frank Kudron, he came to the US in the early 1900's I think 1910 ish. He moved to Chicago. One of his children was named Walter Frank Kudron, (my grandpa) but he died when my dad was a child so I have no one to talk to and find out about why Frank came to the US or who we are related to, we now live in Wisconsin, but I think some Kudron's still live in Chicago. If you have any information about this I would really appreciate it.
I searched through some of my standard resources -- census, Social Security Death Index (SSDI), the Polish Genealogical Society of America (PGSA) website -- to see what information I could glean.

Here are my preliminary notes that I forwarded to Michelle.

 Update 4 June 2007
I created this webpage on 14 May after Michelle's contact.  Not two weeks later I had another entry in my guestbook from another Michele (one 'l') KUDRON:
{{{Marge}}} My name is Michele Kudron, I live in Sheffield, Vermont. My father was Leonard F Kudron, son of Frank & Sophia Kudron. They lived in Chicago. I never met may grandmother Sohie, she past away long before I was ever thought of... My dad's brothers were Walter, Bruno, Eugene, Joey,he had a sister Alice and a baby sister Lola. Dad, (Leonard) was in the service so us kids didn't really get a chance to get to know our cousins well, but I will ALWAYS cherish our visits to Chi--town.
Thank you for this site Marge!
I received a reply from Michele to an e-mail I sent to her.  She confirmed that her uncle Bruno was from the first marriage of her grandfather Frank KUDRON.  She did not know the first wife's name nor did she know her grandmother Sophie's maiden name.  Michele mentioned that in addition to Bruno, Walter and Richard, her father's siblings also included Joseph, Alice and Lola.

I still do not have enough information to determine if the Frank KUDRON in the 1930 census is the same person named in the other sources documented on this page.  I will make updates as I learn more.

 1930 Census

1930 U.S. census, Illinois, Cook County, 21 Precinct, City of Chicago Ward 32, ED 2690, sheet 25A
1905 Huron St., dwelling 222, family 542
Kudron, Frank, head, age 38 (b abt 1892), married, age 21 when first married (17 years, about 1913), born Poland, parents born Poland, immigrated 1909, naturalized, spring maker, factory
Kudron, Sophie, wife, age 28 (b abt 1902), married, age 22 when first married (6 years, about 1923), born Poland, parents born Poland, immigrated 1922, alien
Kudron, Bruno, son, age 10 (b abt 1920), single, born Illinois, parents born Poland
Kudron, Walter, son, age 4 4/12 (b abt 1926), single, born Illinois, parents born Poland
Kudron, Richard, son, age 2 10/12 (b abt 1927), single, born Illinois, parents born Poland
Kudron, Leonard, son, age 1 1/12 (b abt 1929), single, born Illinois, parents born Poland

Frank was first married at age 21. His current age is 38. 38 - 21 = 17 years. 1930 - 17 = 1913, the approximate year he was first married
Sophie was first married at age 22. Her current age is 28. 28 - 22 = 6 years. 1930 - 6 = 1924, the approximate year she was first married.
Frank was married previously, the calculated marriage years for Frank and Sophie are not the same.
I searched the Polish Genealogical Society's (PGSA) marriage index and found a Frank KUDRON who married Hedwig CIOLKOWSKI on 16 Oct 1912 at Holy Trinity Church in Chicago.  Source for the index was the LDS microfilm 1703800 item 5. (PGSA Marriage Index)
I also searched the PGSA's Death Index and found an entry for Jadwiga KUDRON who died on 6 Apr 1923.  There is mention of a Jozef CIOLEK.  (PGSA Death Notice Index 1890-1929)*
 Frank immigrated 1909
Based on ages of children, Walter, Richard and Leonard are from this marriage.
I found these entries in the PGSA Death Notice Index 1930-1971*:  Zofia KUDRON died 21 May 1947 (in the Notes column is the name KOWAL - maiden name?); Franciszek KUDRON died 7 May 1959.  NOTE!! I do not know yet if these are the same individuals who were named in the 1930 census.
*These are indexes of death notices that were published in the Polish newspaper Dziennik Chicagoski

 From My Family File

From the Mormon microfilms of the Parish of Pilzno, Poland, I have a Franciscus KUDRON, born 23 May 1891 in Kozia Wola, Galicia, Poland.  His parents were Adalbertus (Wojciech) KUDRON and Marianna MIGALA (MIGA£A).  Adalbertus and Marianna were the parents of 8 children.  Adalbertus died 11 Apr 1901 in Kozia Wola.  Marianna married Adalbertus (Wojciech) URYASZ on 20 Aug 1902 in Kozia Wola, Parish of Pilzno, Galicia, Poland.

Children of Adalbertus / Woyciech KUDRON and Marianna MIGALA:
Joannes Franciscus, born 7 Aug 1888, Kozia Wola, Galicia, Poland; house 13, died 12 Aug 1888
Josephus Adam, born 6 Dec 1889, Kozia Wola, Galicia, Poland; house 13
Franciscus, born 23 May 1891, Kozia Wola, Galicia, Poland; house 13
Stanislaus, born 10 Apr 1893, Kozia Wola, Galicia, Poland; house 13, died 29 Dec 1963, buried Pilzno, Podkarpackie, Poland
Catharina, born 19 May 1895, Kozia Wola, Galicia, Poland; house 13
Joannes, born 13 Mar 1897, Kozia Wola, Galicia, Poland; house 13
Anna, born 11 Jan 1899, Kozia Wola, Galicia, Poland; house 13
Laurentius, born 1 Nov 1900, Kozia Wola, Galicia, Poland; house 13

The date of birth on the WW I draft registration for Frank KUDRON was 22 May1891.

Franciszek KUDRON, listed on the 1909 Rhein ship passenger list, named his step-father Wojciech URYASZ as his nearest living relative in Poland.  Franciszek was going to be with his cousin Jozef PANEK, who was living in Chicago.  Franciszek's father, Adalbertus KUDRON, had a sister Catharina, who married Andreas PANEK in Kozia Wola.

I have not yet looked for all children born to Catharina KUDRON and Andreas PANEK, but I am hoping I will find a son Jozef.

I am almost certain the Frank KUDRON of the WW I draft registration and the Franciszek KUDRON of the ship passenger list is my second cousin twice removed.

Another KUDRON brother who immigrated to Chicago, Illinois USA

While going through my digital photos of the marriage records for St. John Cantius Church in Chicago, Illinois, I came across the marriage record for a Jozef Kudron from Koziwoda (Kozia Wola) pow. Pilzno, Galicia
son of Wojciech and Maryanna Migala.

Marriage record of Jozef KUDRON:
Registrum Matrimoniorum, St. John Cantius Church, Diocese of Chicago, Illinois

Jozef Kudron from Koziwoda (Kozia Wola) pow. Pilzno, Galicia

daughter of Andrzej and Regina Grabosz

Praesentibus testibus, Franciszek Nowak and Stanislaw Leszczynski

The birth index for St. John Cantius Parish at PGSA.org lists a daughter born to Joseph KUDRON and Anna TATARA:

Stanis³aw and Zofia KUDRON TombstoneWhile I was visiting cousins in Poland in June/July 2006, I visited the Villages of Kozia Wola and Lipiny, where my KUDRONs and my SZTORCs originate.  My cousin Roman, my guide and translator, located a KUDRON family living in Kozia Wola.  We learned from Arkadiusz KUDRON, that his grandfather Stanisław was buried in the Pilzno Cemetery.  Lipiny and Kozia Wola are part of the Pilzno Parish.  Roman and I located Stanisław's grave, which I photographed.  After I returned home, I looked through the Pilzno Parish microfilms to see if I could make a connection to him.  Stanisław was a son of Adalbertus / Wojciech KUDRON and Marianna MIGALA, a grandson of Laurentius / Wawrzyniec KUDRON and Anna TWOREK.  Anna TWOREK was a sister my great great grandmother Marianna TWOREK, daughter of Antonius TWOREK and Sophia KRUPA of £êki Dolne, Galicia, Poland.  Marianna married Joannes Cantius SZTORC who was born in Zaj±czkowice, also a part of the Pilzno Parish.

Stanisław, Jozef and Franciszek were brothers.

Some time ago I ordered the LDS microfilm 1578067, marriage records for St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Chicago, looking for the marriage record for a GALUS cousin.  While I had the film on loan, I went through and snapped digital photos of other records whose names or birth locations were of interest to me.  Today (10 Jun 2007) I was browsing the digital records and noticed a marrige record for a Wojciech KUDROŃ and Maryana MIGAŁA.  As I read through the details on the hand written record, it hit me that this was the marriage record of the above mentioned Wojciech and Marianna whose children - including Franciscus and Stanislaus - were born in Kozia Wola, Poland.  Wojciech and Maryana immigrated to Chicago, married, and then went back to Poland.
