Upon the application and at the request of John Crossland, I have surveyed for him sixty acres of land situate lying and being in Bedford County in the Second District on the waters of Noah's fork of Duck River. Beginning on two black Gums on the Northern boundary line of a 200 acres Survey made for Thomas Burnam standing on the west side of a ridge running from thence north 54 poles to two dogwoods coming out of the same root standing near the top of a ridge thence West passing the South East corner of a 100 acres survey made for the said John Crossland at 32 poles and with his line crossing a branch running to the left in all 130 poles and cornered on Newton Pryor's line of Grant No 217 on the Eastern boundary line a white oak sugar tree and ironwood a few poles North of the Double Springs thence South with said Pryor's line 74 poles to the North West corner of said 200 acre survey made for Thomas Burman an ash and two Hickory thence East with his line 1320 poles crossing a branch to the beginning. Surveyed the 1st day of June 1808.

Upon the application and at the request of John Crossland, I have surveyed for him one hundred acres of land including an improvement Situate lying and being in Bedford County in the Second District on the waters of Noah's fork a branch of Duck River. Beginning at two Beeches on the west side of a ridge running from thence north passing through John Patrick's field and crossing a branch twice in all 163 poles to a white walnut bush and Ironwood thence West 98 poles crossing two Branches to three Chestnuts on the top of a ridge and in Norton Pryor's line thence with the same South 136 poles to a white oak sugar tree and Ironwood thence East 98 poles crossing a branch to the beginning. Surveyed the 7th of June 1808.

A 100 acre survey made for John Crossland some time before May 1814 was used as a geographic reference in the legal land description of the deed transcribed below. John Crossland was not a party of the transaction. The land was located on Noah's Fork of Duck River.
The legal description reads in part: "Beginning at Two Black gums in the Northern Boundary of a Two Hundred Acre Survey made for Thomas Burnam Standing on the West side of a Ledge, running from thence North Seventy four poles to Two dogwoods coming from the Same West Boundary near the top of a ridge, thence West Passing the South East Corner of a 100 Acre Survey made for John Crossland at thirty two poles with his line crossing a branch in all one Hundred and thirty poles to corner on Norton Pryor's line of a grant No 219 on the Eastern boundary at a White Oak, Sugar Tree and Ironwood a few poles North of the Double Springs... Grant 4544 to said Samuel Hughes for about sixty acres of land to include the Plantation formally (sic) Occupied by Daniel Benson, now in the possession of Mary Weatherford..."

to the heirs of Jeremiah Litteral by the Secretary of North Carolina the
19th day of December 1785 I have surveyed for Thomas Crosslin 20 acres of
land Situate lying and being in the County of Bedford in the 2nd District
and on the waters of Noah's fork of Duck River. Beginning at a buckeye and
Sugar tree marked SH Standing in the fork of a branch of Noah's Fork called
the Horse Branch, running from thence East Ten Poles to two beeches and a
Sugar Tree, thence North 80 poles to a forked chestnut on the West side of
a ridge and near the top thereof and thence West 40 poles Crossing a branch
to a white walnut and Stake; thence South 80 poles to a beech and Sugar
Tree thence East 30 poles to the beginning. Surveyed the 16th of September
