Chester County, PA Boyds
From the Surname Registry pages
on the Chester Co. PA GenWeb site,
I see that you are researching
BOYDs of that county. Can you, by any
chance, shed light on this
Chester Co. BOYD family?
Will of William BOYD of Sadsbury,
Chester Co., PA; written January 13,
1762; proved January 27, 1762.
Orders tombstone for grave of self and
first wife. Provides
for wife Elizabeth. To son Alexander £100. To son John
15 pistoles. To daughter Martha
STUART £50. To daughter Janet BOYD
£100. To daughters
Mary, Ann and Hannah BOYD £100 each. To son
William £200.
To daughter Elizabeth BOYD £100. Executors to sell 400 acres
off the south end of plantation,
remainder equally divided. Executors: Brother
James BOYD and wife Elizabeth.
Witnesses: Andrew STERLING, Alexander
SIMRALL, Robert MESER.
The reason I ask is because
I am tracing a Martha STEWART/STUART (b.
abt. 1757, birthplace unknown)
in Phila. Co., and found this Phila. will of a
Hannah BOYD that mentions
her: Hannah BOYD - Proved 15 Aug 1782,
File #150, Book S, p. 158.
Written 19 Jul 1782. To brother-in-law John
STILLE and sister Martha STEWART.
Executrix: Martha STEWART.
Witnesses: Joseph GARDNER
and John STILLE. Unfortunately, there are no
identifying materials in that
Phila. will file. I found the record of this Hannah
BOYD's burial at 2nd Presbyterian,
Phila.: Hannah BOYD, age 35, buried 7
Aug 1782, sister of Mr. STILLE
(so this Hannah BOYD was b. abt. 1747).
I assume that Hannah knew
what her relationship was to Mr. STILLE when
she directed her Will, and
that the minister got the relationship wrong. John
STILLE's wife may have been
Hannah BOYD's sister. There is a record of the
marriage of a Mary BOYD to
John STILLE in 1763 in Phila. -- one year after
William BOYD's Chester Co.
will mentioning a daughter Mary.
