RICHARD W. BOYD/MARY ANN MARSHALL
Wise County, Texas
The family of this name has
been one of the solid, representative and
substantial families of Wise
County since the early days of settlement.
Uncle Dick, as he was familiarly
known, was one of the best citizens
Wise County ever produced,
and his sons and daughters are numbered
among the quiet, dignified,
thoroughly honorable and upright citizens of the
county, the sons being progressive
business men in their respective
callings, and the daughters
esteemed and faithful wives and mothers.
Richard W. Boyd was born in
Coweta County, Georgia, May 26, 1825;
Mary Ann Marshall, his wife,
was born in the same county, May 9, 1833. They
were married April 12, 1848;
moved to Upshur County, Texas, near Gilmer,
in 1851, and in April 1860
(or, possibly 1858?) came to Wise County and
settled near Aurora. Mr. Boyd
participated actively in guarding the
county against Indians during
the time of their depredations, upon which
account he was prevented from
entering the war. The names of their
children, dates of their birth
and to whom they were married are here
given, as well as their present
place of residence:
James F. (Frank) Boyd, born
September 1, 1850; married Betty (Elizabeth)
Woody (Uncle Sam's daughter),
in 1869; Seminole, Texas.
Martha E. (Elizabeth) Boyd,
born June 17, 1852; married T. (Thomas) D.
(Drew) Woody, in 1869; Fredrick,
Oklahoma.

born August 31, 1855; married Ada J.
Elliott, in 1877; Boyd, Texas.

Woody Rowlett, in 1878; near
Boyd, Texas.
Emma J. Boyd, born January 21, 1860; married Amos Finch, in 1875; dead.
J. (John) E. (Edward) Boyd,
born January 14, 1862; married Denie
(Ardena) J. (Josephine) Rogers,
in 1886; Decatur, Texas.
(Mary Catherine Boyd, born February 3, 1864; died July 13, 1866.)

26, 1871; married R. (Robert) H. (Henry)
Fralin, in 1895; Boyd, Texas.

Dear Richard
Please forgive my sending this
unsolicited email, but I was wondering if you
posted the article on Richard
W. Boyd, from the Pioneer History of Wise
County, on the International
Clan Boyd website. If so, are you descended
from Richard W. Boyd?
I believe that Henry Thomas
Boyd, listed as one of the sons of Richard W.
Boyd, was my great-grandfather
and namesake. My grandfather, Arthur Elliott
Boyd, was born in Boyd, Wise
County, Texas, then moved on to Artesia, New
Mexico, and finally settled
in Plainview, Texas, where my father was born.
I was also born in Plainview.
I have done some research on
our line of Boyds, but have not gotten very
far. Do you have any
information on Richard W. Boyd's parents or
grandparents? Any help
you could give would be greatly appreciated.
Tom Boyd

Boyd, Texas in southern Wise
County, originated in 1893, as a station on the
Rock Island Railroad and was
named for H. S. Boyd, then an official of the road.
Boydston, Texas, in southwestern
Gray County, was also named for H. S. Boyd.
when it became a post office
on the Chicago, Rock Island and Gulf Railroad in
1903. I have heard that he
was from Chicago, but don't have any fact to back this up.
Thanks to the roll call, I
have been in touch with a cousin who gave me the name of
my ggggrandparents.
