THE CONESUS, NEW YORK BOYDS
William P. Boyd, 1887
Phillip
Boyd, the progenitor of this family in Conesus was born at New
Bedford, Westchester County,
New York, 24 May 1771. He married Elizabeth
Barrett
who was born at the same place on April 6, 1773. He and she died
here May 31, 1823 and August
30, 1836 respectively. He was a Captain in the
War of 1812 at Newburgh and
came to the town (Conesus) with his family
April 6, 1821 and settled
on the place now owned by his son Hiram Boyd.
Their family consisted of
ten children, and all died before coming to the
town, except the following
three, namely:
1st. Justus
Boyd who was born June 16, 1796. He lost his life, June 16,
1838 by the burning of the
steamboat "George Washington" on Lake Erie,
while assisting to save some
thirty of forty children abandoned by their
parents on the burning boat.
After he had succeeded in placing them
safely on a raft, he being
a good swimmer, entered the water and being in
a heated state, and after
swiming nearly two miles, was picked up by a
boat and taken to the shore,
where he died less than two hours later. He
married Almira
Nutt who was born September 19, 1799. She now resides at
Howell, Michigan. They
came to the town (Conesus) with his father's family in
1821, and lived in a log house
that stood west of the residence of
Matthew
Allen, then to Mt. Morris, and from there to Howell, Michigan.
Their children are: 1st.
Lewis Boyd who married Charity Cook
who died in
January of 1884 at 57 years.
He has two children, Justus married Janet
Bates
(daughter of Ex-governor Bates of Michigan) and lost his life in
the great flood in California
in 1885 and Jerred Boyd who married Harriet
Newman.
2nd. John Boyd married Lucinda
Holloway. 3rd. Hannah Boyd who
died March 9, 1872 at 49 years.
4th. Norman Boyd married Rhoda
Scolfield.
5th. Henry
Boyd married Matilda Curtis and had
two children, Bartrom and
Kate
Boyd. 6th. Elizabeth Boyd
married Rev. Lyman Dean. 7th. Henry
Boyd
married Elizabeth
Briggs. 8th Angeline Boyd, single
and 9th. William Boyd
who died Aug 17, 1839. They
all live near Howell, Michigan where they went
in 1835.
2nd. Hiram
Boyd was born at Newburgh, New York December 18, 1806. He
married Jane
McNinch who was born at Richmond, Ontario County, New York
August 25, 1808 and died April
18, 1883. Hiram came to the town (Conesus)
in 1821 with his father's
family and has always resided on the place he
now lives on. Their family
consisted of three children namely: 1st Elizabeth
Boyd who died February 12, 1840 at 3 years. 2nd Bennett
R. Boyd who
was born February 24, 1841
and married Elizabeth Jerome who was born,

November 1846. They have one
child, Mary Boyd. 3rd. William
P. Boyd* who
was born March 26, 1849 and
married Mary R. Allen who was born 22 June
1850. They have one child
named Victor Boyd.
3rd. Almer
Boyd who died October 17, 1838 at 29 years.
