Boyd, a Representative from New Jersey; born in Mendham, N.J.,
March 21, 1746; moved to Bergen
County about 1770 and to Hackensack a
few years later; member of
the board of freeholders and justices in
1773, 1784, 1791, 1794, and
1798; sheriff of Bergen County 1778-1781 and
again in 1789; member of the
State house of assembly in 1782, 1783,
1787, 1794, and 1795;judge
of the court of common pleas of Bergen County
1803-1805; elected as a Democrat
to the Eighth Congress (March 4,
1803-March 3, 1805); elected
to the Tenth Congress to fill the vacancy
caused by the death of Ezra
Darby; reelected to the Eleventh and Twelfth
Congresses and served from
March 8, 1808, to March 3, 1813; again judge
of the court of common pleas
1813-1833; died in Hackensack, Bergen
County, N.J., August 15, 1835;
interment in the First Reformed Church
Cemetery.
