                                     John & Martha Witherspoon Boyd

 John Boyd was born on 21 January 1787 in Burke Co., North Carolina.<1> He married Martha Witherspoon, daughter of Alexander Witherspoon and Martha Leach, in 1809. He died on 27 September 1846 in Newton County, Missouri, at age 59.<2>,<3>

* On 19 February 1805 in Wilson County, Tennessee, John was named as a grandson,   son of Isabel Boyd, in the will of John Leach.<4> 
* On 12 August 1818 in Wilson County,   Tennessee, John Boyd  and Joseph Witherspoon sold 228 acres (State of Tennesse Grant #   1234) on Sanders Fork to James Summers.<5> 
* On 23 September 1818 in Rutherford County, Tennessee, John McKnight sold to John Boyd of Wilson County, 160a on McKnight's Creek for   $1100.  Wits. Joseph Witherspoon and John Witherspoon.<6> 
* He appeared on the census of   1820 in Rutherford County, Tennessee. 21001-1001 (2m -10, 1m 10-16, 1m 26-45: 2f -10,   1f 26-45).<7>
* He appeared on the census of 1830 in Rutherford County, Tennessee, 2113001-11111101.<8>
* On 9 April 1838 in Rutherford County, Tennessee, John Boyd to   William D. Baird, 160a on McKnight's Creek, for $1000. Wits. John D. Alexander and   John Witherspoon.<9> 
* He appeared on the census of 1840 in Newton Co., Missouri. 01111001-0110001.<10>,<11>
* In March 1840 in Newton Co., Missouri, March Term, a member of the jury was John Boyd.<12> 
* On 11 December 1843 in Rutherford County, Tennessee, he gave a Power of Attorney to William B. Boyd of  Rutherford County, Tennessee. 
*John Boyd, Senior, was issued a certificate (No. 7148) by the General Land Office in Springfield, Missouri, on 1 Jun 1845.  The land was described as: "Lot number two of the North East fractional quarter of Section five in Township twenty five of Range thirty one West, in the District of Lands subject to sale at Springfield, Missouri, containing seventy   six acres and ninety seven hundredths of an acres."<13> 
* On 14 October 1851 in Newton Co., Missouri, the land of John Boyd was sold by his heirs. All living children with their spouses signed the deed. The transaction was filed on 27 Feb 1858.<14> 

Martha Witherspoon was born on 1 November 1792 in Iredell County, North Carolina.<15> She died circa 1851 in Newton County, Missouri. 

* In August 1847 in Newton Co., Missouri, the court minutes reported that some road viewers were to view the road going by Dr. Sneeds' from Kendrick's shop, to Elam's mill, Job Ratliff's farm, by Roseborough's old place and Plummer's sawmill, Widow Boyd's on the north side of Shoal Creek, north east to a prairie & passing west of the Widow Snodgrass' farm, along an old road 1 mile above John Henry's in the direction of Sarcoxie. 
* She appeared on the census of 1850 in Newton Co., Missouri. HH 149: Martha Boyd 57 NC, Joel M. 25 Tn, James T. 20 Tn, Margaret 16 Tn.<16>

The 10 known children of John1 Boyd and Martha Witherspoon were as follows:

  +     2    i.David Feamster Boyd, born 25 August 1810 <17> in Wilson County, Tennessee; married Elizabeth E. Blankinship, daughter of Sylvester Blankinship and Ann Wilson, on 31 Jan 1833. <18> He died on 22 Mar 1867, probably in Newton County, Missouri, at age 56. <19>

  +     3   ii.William M. Boyd, born 24 November 1812 <20> in Wilson County, Tennessee; married Isabella McKnight on 27 Mar 1834 in Rutherford County, Tennessee. (Bond date was 24 Mar 1834, they were married by Jesse Alexander). <21> He married Derinda (____) on 3 Jun 1847 in Newton County, Missouri.<22> He died on 15 Mar 1875 in Newton County, Missouri, at age 62.<23>

  +     4  iii.Isabella E. Boyd, born 1 March 1815 <24>in Wilson County, Tennessee. She married John Boyd on 17 Jan 1836 in Rutherford County, Tennessee.<25> She died on 10 Apr 1848 in Newton County, Missouri, at age 33. <26>

  +     5   iv.Rosanah E. Boyd, born 20/26 April 1817<27, 28> in Wilson County, Tennessee. She married James Henderson Boyd, son of Aaron Boyd, on 13 Jan 1836 in Rutherford County, Tennessee. <29> She died circa 1851.

  +     6    v.Joseph Alexander Boyd, born 26 September 1819 <30, 31>in Wilson/Rutherford County, Tennessee. He married Holly Ann Jones ca 1849. He died circa Feb 1859 in Newton County, Missouri.

  +     7   vi.John W. Boyd, born 11 July 1822 <32,33> in Rutherford County, Tennessee. He married Melvina Henry, daughter of ____ Henry and ____ Ross, on 1 Jun 1848 in Newton County,Missouri.<34> He died before 14 Oct 1851.

  +     8  vii.Joel Marion Boyd, born 15 April 1825 <35> in Rutherford County, Tennessee. He married Lucretia Payne on 21 Oct 1850 in Newton County, Missouri. He died before 1880.

  +     9 viii.Martha Jane Boyd, born 5 February 1828 <36, 37> in Rutherford County,     Tennessee. She married John Boyd ca 1850 in Newton County, Missouri. She died on 2 May 1884 in Comanche County, Texas, at age 56. She was buried in the Hazeldell cemetery in Comanche County.<38>

  +    10   ix.James Thomas Boyd, born 18 May 1830 <39, 40> in Rutherford County, Tennessee. He married Emily Frances Davidson, daughter of Joshua Davison/Davidson and Elizabeth A. Glover, on 27 Oct 1853 in Newton County, Missouri. He died on 13 Feb 1915 near Diamond, Newton County,Missouri. He was bured on 15 Feb 1915 in the Boyd cemetery near Diamond. <41>

  +    11    x.Margaret S.E. Boyd, born 24 June 1833 <42> in Rutherford County, Tennessee. She married 1 James Ross, son of Robert & Charlotte Ross, ca 1856.  She married 2 John A. Smith on 24 May 1867 in Newton County, Missouri. She died on 3 Jan 1873 in Newton County, Missouri, at age 39.<43>
