I have no Bolton, MA info,
however I do have info on BOYDS of Marlborough,
MA. I can provide you
with the BOYD info from Marlborough such as a
genealogy as it relates to
the Marlborough BOYDS and vital records BMD's
for BOYD in Marlborough; additinally
I have a site that has info on BOYD, a
few items are listed below.
Please feel free to use any of the information in your
site. I will provide
in text format the vital records and the genealogy if
you would like. There
are over 50 referrences to the surname BOYD in my
site.
I intended to add the BOYD
records eventually into my site, so it will only
speed up the process if you
would like them now.
John Boyd came to this country
in 1636*
and settled in Boston, Mass., he
married Ann Glenn. There
is listed four children of which Alexander, who
came to Marlborough in 1754
and married Lucy Forbes. He died in Vermont.
There was also William Boyd,
born 1735, who came to Marlborough when he was
12 years old and was adopted
by a Mr. Stratton. This Mr. Stratton I suspect
was Jonathan Stratton who
married 23 Feb 1742 Betty Brigham.
William married 8 July 1760
Lydia Morse had eight children all born in
Marlborough, one of which
was John born 22 April 1778 who married
04 Oct 1809, Sophia Phelps.
William died 5 Aug 1817. Boyd, William,
(1735-1817) was a private
and quartermaster in Captain Barnes' company,
Colonel Ward, Massachusetts
regiment. He was born and died in Marlboro, Mass.
One of your files starts with William and Lydia.
Samuel Boyd, son of John and
Sophia (Phelps) Boyd, born 3 June 1815 married
14 May 1845 Anne Fisher Brigham
in the Larkin Home, the couple boarded first
at the Thayer Hotel then began
housekeeping on Bridge street in Marlborough.
Samuel Boyd was a shoe maker
who shows up in the 1850 Irish Census of
Marlborough. Samuel
donated $300.00 to help with the start up of the
Marlborough Hospital in 1890.
The map of 1879 shows him owning the West
House on Main St a residence
on Fairmount St. and properties on Maplewood
St., Neil St. and Ringold
St. in Marlborough. His signature can be seen on
my site which is from an original
document relative to the Irish Volunteers.
Joseph Boyd, son of John and
Sophia (Phelps) Boyd, born 26 Dec 1810 married
M. E. Bridge. Owned Boyd &
Co. located at 313 Main St..
The Boyds were a wealthy family
in Marlborough and owned a shoe shop a
picture of which can be seen
in my site.
And there is more. The site is at

Is
the date 1636 correct? or was it 1736. I have been researching Boyds
for
a long time and have *never* seen reference to Boyds in New England that
early.

1636
is the date recorded in the book "History of Marlborough Mass*,
by
Charles
Hudson. Published 1862.
Mr. Hudson's
material is reliable. He was hired by the town of Marlborough
to prepare
a book on Marlborough's past in time to celebrate it's 200th
anniversary.
The date does raise eyebrows, for he is quoted as having a son
(William)
born in 1735.
I do
know that many BOYD's are buried in the oldest cemetery in town that
being
Springhill.
William, son of William and Lydia d 9/27/1771 aged 4 years
Thomas, son of William and Lydia d 1/3/1777 aged 23 days
William, son of Williamn and Lydia d 1/23/1776 aged 4 months 16 days
Lt. William
Boyd d 8/5/1817 aged 81years, 9 mos and 11 dys (which would
verify
his date of birth)
There is a Revolutionary marker at his grave.
Lydia
Boyd wife of Lt William Boyd d 2/24/1817 aged 71 years, 9 mos and 29
dys
(which would verify her date of birth)
and...
William (son of John Boyd & Sophia Phelps) d 3/7/1883 Ae 78 yrs 3 mos.
Joseph,
another son of John and Sophia, is buried at Brigham Cemetery, he d
3/28/1892
Ae 81; his wife, Mary E. (Bridge) is also buried there, she d
9/2/1864
Ae 49.
It is
quite possible the date is a typo and even if it were to be 1663 (instead
of
1636),
the age again would be suspect... 1693 or 6 would be more palatable.
If you
use the material, a note should be made indicating the suspect of the
1636
date.

*I
firmly believe the date 1736 is closer to being correct than 1636.
The year
1636
is only twenty years after the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock.
I have never
seen
any records of Boyds that early in New England.
