NEW YORK to NEBRASKA and KANSAS
George B. NEWTON , son of
Samuel Douglas and Sylvia NEWTON was born Sept
24, 1866 at Evans Mills, Jefferson
Co, New York and departed this life
at his home in Haddam, Kansas
Sept 27, 1935 at the age of 69 years, and
3 days. At the age of 2 years
he came west with his parents, settling in
Pawnee Co, Nebraska, where
he spent his early life.
On July 3, 1892, he was united
in marriage to TABITHA JANE BOYD, also
of Pawnee, where they made
their home. To this union were born eight children.
Two preceded him in death,
MAGGIE HESTER BOYD, at the age of eight years
in 1901 and CORBETT JAMES
BOYD, age 23 in 1918; also one grand-daughter,
Maxene BOWER age 2 years in
1921. In 1902 they moved to a farm northeast
of Haddam where they lived
for 18 years after which they moved to Haddam
where he lived until his death.
He realized the end was near and was
ready to go. He was
a very patient sufferer, always thinking of those
caring for him and their comfort,
meeting his friends and loved ones
with a smile. During
the last few days all of the children were at home,
being at his bedside when
he passed away. He said to tell all his
relatives and friends goodbye
for him. He was a kind and loving husband
and father. In 1906,
under the evangelistic efforts of sister Marks, he
obeyed the call of the Lord
and was a member of the Hickory Grove
Baptist church until his death.
He lived a devoted Christian life. He
was a member of the Odd Fellow
Lodge and has been Past Grand since 1931.
He leaves to mourn his passing
his wife and the following children, Mrs.
Mary BOWER, Sylvia EICHMAN,
Mrs. Tabitha CRAFT, all of Haddam, KS, DORA,
DENA, GEORGE B. and JOHN HENRY
of the home, also seven grandsons and one
granddaughter, an an only
sister, Mrs. Melissa HADDAN of Reynolds, NE and
many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the U.P
Church at Haddam on Sunday
afternoon, the Rev. Reeves of Concordia
officiating. Burial in the
Hickory Grove Cemetery.
