SEAMEN
There are numerous references to seamen in the
Jamaican Parish
Registers. Many of them were undoubtedly British,
some Canadian or
American, but other ships would seem to be of
Jamaican registry. Usually
the records are for burials, but there are sometimes
records of
marriages and baptisms of children. Most of these
children remained in
Jamaica. The entries are useful not only in locating
people, but also in
identifying which ships put into certain Jamaican
ports.
LIST OF SEAMEN:
BOYD, William, Burial 31 Oct 1777, St. James,
Master of the brig "Jesse."

SOLDIERS
There are numerous references to soldiers in
the early Jamaican Parish
Registers. Most of them were British soldiers.
Some of these soldiers
were later left in Jamaica when their regiments
disbanded. There are
records for burials, marriages and baptisms.
Where the regiments in
which they served are listed, this information
may also be useful in
tracing other military personnel.
LIST OF SOLDIERS:
MCPHERSON, Hector, Marriage, Mary Ann BOYD, widow,
of 92nd Regt;
