             SAMUEL B. BOYD - DAVIESS COUNTY, IN

SAMUEL B. BOYD, superintendent of the schools of Daviess County, was born at Yorkville, Dearborn Co., Ind.,  March 14, 1858, being a son of JOHN and ELIZABETH (MILLER) BOYD (both deceased), who were natives of Ireland and Ohio, respectively.  He was reared on a  farm in his native county by his parents, receiving a good literary education.  He completed his schooling with a course at the Central Normal College at Danville, Ind., and at the age of nineteen began his career as a public teacher.  

In 1871 he removed with his parents to this county, teaching four years in the county schools, and since acting as principal of the Odon schools and as an instructor in the city schools of Washington.  June 1, 1883, he was elected county superintendent, a position he has since filled with satisfaction.  He is an Odd Fellow, a Democrat and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
