Clan Boyd Society, International
My Boyds intertwine, intermarry
and are totally entangled with the Paynes, McWhorters and Sloan/Slone families
(among others) in Meriwether and Carroll counties.
1st Generation:
ROBERT BOYD, b. 1761 in Ireland,
d. 15 Oct 1846 in Meriwether Co., GA m. Rosannah Stewart. Children:
William, Joseph, Mary B., John, Hugh, Jennett, James, Robert, Rosannah,
David Barton, Francis, Jefferson. I have an actual copy of Robert's will
taken from the will book in Greenville, Meriwether County. (I whined and
begged until they allowed me to make a copy. The book is literally
falling apart.)
2nd Generation:
HUGH BOYD, b. 16 Dec 1797
in Newberry Co., SC, d. bef., 1880 in Carroll Co., GA. m. Nancy Hopper.
Children: Robert B., John David, Marion O., Joel Wesley, George White,
Lewis Dudley, Rosana, William M., Martha Ann, James.
3rd Generation:
ROBERT B. BOYD, b. 27 May
1827 in Newberry Co., SC, d. 5 March 1894 in Carroll Co., GA. Buried Powell's
Chapel Methodist Church cemetery near Villa Rica, GA. m. Sarah Ann Le Guin.
19 Feb 1846 in Meriwether Co., GA. Sarah Ann ( I don't have her parents)
was b. 1 May 1825. d. 21 June 1889 in Carroll Co., GA. Buried at Powell's
Chapel. Sarah Ann's last name has been seen spelled many ways. "Le Guin"
is how it appears in my mother's family Bible. Possible link to the Le
Guin family of McDonough, Henry County, Georgia. Children: Christopher
Columbus, Melvina, Louisa Elizabeth, Nancy Ann.
4th Generation:
LOUISA ELIZABETH BOYD, b.
1 Feb 1858 (not sure whether she was born in Meriwether or Carroll. The
family moved between 1850-1860), d. 23 March 1950 in Cobb or Douglas County
... she was living in either Austell or Lithia Springs at the time of her
death. Buried at Powell's Chapel. Married Joseph Joshua Payne on 15 Dec
1877, son of William Jasper Payne and Polly Ann Wood(s). Joseph (a twin)
was born 20 Jan 1854 and died 30 Sept 1891 in Carroll Co., GA. (Typhoid
fever) Buried at Powell's Chapel. Marriage date is in Bible passed from
Christopher Columbus Boyd to his niece, Milie Ann Payne White, to her niece,
Marian Payne McWhorter Fowler (my mother). Actual marriage record for Christopher
Columbus and his wife, Sarah G.H. ----, or for Louisa and Joseph has not
been found to date. Children: Coie O. Lonzo,
Robert Stephen, Milie Ann,
Sarah Jane, Gooly Ross (died as an infant with typhoid fever. Buried at
Powell's Chapel). Gooly's name may have come from family of Ghu Le Guin
of McDonough, GA.
5th Generation:
SARAH JANE PAYNE, b. 6 April
1888 in Carroll County, GA, d. 13 June 1952 in Atlanta, Fulton County,
GA. Married John Allen McWhorter on 19 August 1906 in Carroll County, GA.
Son of William Leroy McWhorter and Eliza J. Wren of Carroll County. John
was born 23 Dec. 1882 in Carroll Co., died 26 July 1938 in Atlanta. Both
Sarah and John are buried in College Park Cemetery near the Atlanta Airport.
Children: Ruby Faye, Gladys Mae, Marian Payne.
6th Generation:
MARIAN PAYNE (Madge) MCWHORTER
(living) born in Atlanta. (She would kill me if I gave you the date), Married
William Jethroe (Dub) Fowler on 10 July 1935 in Douglasville, Douglas County,
GA. Son of Luther Clarence Fowler and Lula Gadsey Blake of Hightower, Cleburne
County, AL. William was born 8 August 1914 and died 30 August 1975 in Tyrone,
Fayette County, GA. Buried Sharon Memorial Gardens, Tyrone, Fayette County,
GA. Children: Judith Jane, Lula Kay, William Jethroe, Jr.
7th Generation:
JUDITH JANE FOWLER (me) m.
David Maurice Kilgore 28 Oct 1961 in Buchanan, Haralson County, GA.
